Conductor Ron Davis Alvarez from Venezuela came to Sweden five years ago to work with the El Sistema music education programme. At the same time, there was a large influx of refugees, and he decided to give young unaccompanied minors the opportunity to play music. Now, the idea of creating similar orchestras has spread to places such as Alingsås and Gävle – but also around the world.
