Lisa Moberg: “There is an example of unity in Lövgärdet”.

Lisa is, together with the teacher Ron Davis Alvarez, teacher of Dream Orchestra Lövgärdet. She is a very creative teacher, she helps her students learn through fun exercises; she manages to focus the students’ attention and has become an important part of the development of the DO at Lövgärdet. Her students, most of them between 4 to 8 years old, trust and respect her.

How do the students call you? Do they give you a nickname?
The students usually just call me Lisa.
What is the name of your hometown…in what country?
My hometown is in Sweden and is called Tidaholm. It’s not that far from Gothenburg.
What zodiac sign are you?
Aries
What do you love most about working with music education?
That I also constantly learn together with my students.
What makes you happy?
My friends and family. Music, of course, and food.
What is your favorite book?
It’s called ”A little lovesong” and is written by Michelle Magorian.
What is your favorite movie?
That is a very difficult question… I love watching movies in a lot of different genres and it’s really hard to pic one favorite I’m afraid.
What is your favorite song?

Something from your bucket lists, what are you going to do next?
I would like to get a pet.
How did you arrive and start teaching at DO?
I was studying Instrumentaldidaktik at HSM and had Ron as a teacher. I got to join Dream Orchestra rehearsals and do folk music workshops with them, and really enjoyed being there. After the semester ended, I was offered to work there and said yes!
What does working at Lövgärdet mean to you?
There is this unity example in Lövgärdet, where everyone helps each other, which is amazing to be a part of. I get to meet people from different cultures, get to introduce the kids to the world of music and I constantly need to use my own creativity, which is so much fun and inspiring as well.
You use different didactical tools for your students to learn. Can you mention a challenging educational moment and tell us how you solved it?
I needed to gather the group and create more focus in the room for our classes, because it was difficult for the students to listen sometimes. We started to sing together in the beginning of every class, which the kids enjoyed, and it really helped.
Why did you choose to be a teacher?
I’ve always been interested in teaching, I really enjoy it. I love playing the violin, and to get to teach others to play it too is a lot of fun.
You use different strategies to control groups of students, some very funny: which of those tools/exercises can you share with us? short and simple.
Storytelling/composing together in the group – ask questions to the kids to create a story or a song together, with or without movements, and then let them perform it.
Learning rhythms through letters. Every letter gets a particular rhythm, and with these I can spell words through the rhythms. After a while I let the students spell words and I’ll have to guess what it is.
