Since February 2024, 17 players from Öis, the oldest football club in Gothenburg, founded in 1887, have been receiving lessons in violin, viola, and cello under the direction of Maestro Ron Davis Alvarez. This unique project has allowed these athletes to develop new skills and take on a different challenge: music.
At first, the players thought it would be a disaster to play string instruments, but Ron assured them they would be able to do it. It was a bit difficult for them to get their hands used to the strings and bow, but with time and dedication, they have made remarkable progress. Last week, these players attended their first rehearsal alongside the students of Dream Orchestra to prepare for a very special event: their very first concert.
As part of the team's annual gala, Soaré med Öis, which will take place on Friday, January 17th, the players will not only participate as athletes, but also as musicians, performing pieces such as "Jupiter, from the Planets" by Gustav Holst and "Captain Marvel" by Pinar Toprak, alongside the young musicians and teachers of Dream Orchestra.
Along with the young musicians and teachers of Dream Orchestra, the Öis players demonstrated that music can transform and add new dimensions to what they do on the playing field. This orchestral dynamic allowed the players to show that music, just like sports, has the power to unite and transform a team.
Dream Orchestra continues to offer children and young people from different backgrounds the opportunity to create music, learn, and dream together, demonstrating how music can transform lives beyond the musical realm.
