On Sunday, December 11th, Dream Orchestra will present its yearly winter concert at 17:00 in Betlehemskyrkan, Gothenburg. Vasagatan 26-30. Young musicians will play a diverse program including the Christmas concert for strings by Arcangelo Corelli and traditional popular Christmas songs.
Dream Orchestra started in 2016 as a safe space for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers who arrived in Sweden. Today, six years later, most of them have integrated into Swedish society: they study, work and have formed a family. Other students who were not given that opportunity, were sent back, carrying in their suitcases the instrument with which they played in DO.
Over the past years, Dream Orchestra's work with refugees and immigrants has been awarded twice: with the Ockenden International 2021 award for being, according to the jury, "a unique leadership project (...) that empowers refugee youth learning a musical instrument” within orchestral education; and with the “Frihetstonen” Prize, which was awarded by the Torgny Segerstedts Minne Foundation in 2021 for becoming “a world-class youth orchestra, that has also taught hundreds of children and young people that music can be a way of making their voices heard, of find brotherhood in the world.”
With more than 355 students that have been able to take part, Dream Orchestra has become an orchestra for everyone. Regardless of age, musical skills or language, everyone is welcome to participate for free and share a music stand to play music together at one of DO’s locations: Betlehemskyrkan in Göteborg, Rosa Huset in Lövgärdet and the Ecumenial church in Alingsås.
In the past season, Dream Orchestra students participated and improved their musical skills attending 586 rehearsals; 960 sectionals; 469 group classes. They participated in more than 16 concerts and traveled to France and Spain to represent the orchestra in international venues. All this has been possible thanks to the dedication and incredible work of almost a dozen teachers who have learned the teaching methodology under the guidance of the Venezuelan teacher and founder of DO, Ron Davis Alvarez Lombano.
Come say goodbye to 2022 by attending this heart warming concert.
Dream Orchestra delivers its amazing work thanks to the effort of many volunteers and to the generosity of important family foundations. If you believe in this project and wish it to continue in the future, your Christmas donation to Dream Orchestra is most welcome.
