What started as a challenge in January of this year will soon be a dream come true. For the first time, Dream Orchestra students will perform the original piece of Danzón No. 2 by the Mexican composer Arturo Márquez on Tuesday, April 18, at 18:00 p.m., at Betlehemskyrkan, Vasagatan 26-30.
With long hours of rehearsals, the orchestra made up of students between the ages of 10 and 25, with different musical levels, will join some musicians from the Academy of Music and Drama of the University of Gothenburg and the Cultural School of the city, in performance of this work that will be directed by the teacher and founder of DO, Ron Davis Alvarez.
Danzón Nº2 by maestro Arturo Márquez, composed in 1994, becomes the first complete work from the advanced repertoire for symphony orchestra that Dream Orchestra will play, celebrating 6 years since its foundation. This has motivated all the students, who even use the breaks between rehearsals to study and help each other.
This work has also been approached from the narrative point of vue; what a danzón means in Latin American musical culture. DO learned with the guidance and coaching of teacher Yassell Lopez Rodriguez, how to dance a danzón and learned about its cultural and historical origins. This workshop was made possible with the support of Stiftelsen Signatur.
